Default Weekly Advice Column

I've been combing through the forums lately looking for tips, tricks and tactics. The guides are an obvious wealth of knowledge, but are also outdated in many instances. The general advice offered is still solid, but some of the specifics are no longer relevant due to updates, nerfs and buffs.

I have read about the efforts to get the wiki together (another useful, if dated, source of information), but it looks like that project has largely been abandoned.

I don't think the community is robust enough to revise/update either of these resources, but what about something more informal? Here's what I propose:

A weekly/monthly (depending on response) thread dedicated to discussion of an aspect of the game. Topics could be broad (Dogfight Strategy; Plane Match-Ups; Team Play) or narrow (Ultra vs. Turbo; Is Rev Ever Viable?). In the thread vets could offer up some salty wisdom and noobs could ask stupid questions, best practices would be debated and secret strategies might be revealed.

Is this viable and/or interesting to anyone?

I like using remote rockets and mines to boost people in ball mode when playing with a strong thermo, causing them to spin harder into floors.
thoughts?

I had to read this a few times to really understand what you're describing. Wow, man. I'm gonna be watching you now, hoping to see it in action.

Discussion of advanced techniques like this are the kind of stuff I'm hoping these threads will bring out.

I might be willing to do something like this on AltitudeRank.com after the next season of ladder starts. However it is going to primarily cover the fundamentals such as clearing the ball, positioning, etc.

If others wanted to contribute with more advanced tactics or tips that go more in depth on stuff like Ultra vs Turbo that would be fine. But I'd personally be writing with a focus on getting new / low ranked players to the point where they are not continuously hurting teams rather than improving already decent players.

What kind of traffic does the ladder site get compared to the forum? It might be the most effective way to target new players.

perhaps we could add some sort of functionality where the ladder server itself provided tips to the players after each game

I seem to remember server messages in ladder offering tips at one point.
I think the key would be keeping the advice to concise, easily-digestible nuggets of wisdom.

**smooth segue**

Speaking of nuggets of wisdom, new thread started. This week's topic: Team Composition in Ball

The website is written on the ladder lobby and it's the size of my face. You're all blind.

I'm also big headed

Yeah that is part of the reason I went with AltitudeRank.com. I preferred to have the full "Altitude" in the URL but I wanted it to be short enough to easily fit in the server list.

The old ladder URL, AltitudeLadder.com, does redirect to AltitudeRank.com as well.
