Default Connection lost...

its been two days, every single time i join any server, whether it is empty or has people, the server shows all planes continuing their motion in the direction they were facing when i joined the server.
it always continue messing up like this for around 5 seconds then gives me a message saying connection lost. i have tried using internet in a different location, and i have a dns server set on my pc network settings in addition to deleting the game and redownloading it. i lost all my hopes, what is left that i could possibly do to fix this issue?

notes: before i join any server, all of them display a ping of around 100-150 being stable if that would matter.

any help would be much appreciated. thank you.

i also noticed that every time i verify integrity of altitude on steam it would tell me 3 files failed to validate with a total of 2.6 mb. i download them and opened altitude, then it tells me an update is required, when i update and close altitude to verify integrity again it would tell me 3 files failed to validate again...

i think something is wrong with the game when i update it after verifying the integrity on steam...

thats good... nimbly games havent updated the steam version and they applied the update on their server... so every time you reinstall the game the game auto detects the update and installs it, steam doesnt know about the 3 new files and it tells you to download the old version.. ill look into it and come back to you with a solution... for now just try to install the standalone version and check if the same thing happens!

This is an interesting problem. If it shows the players on the screen, even circling, then you're definitly connected to the server, even if it DC's instantly, so it's probably not a firewall. I've had this problem, but usually reconnecting to the server fixes it, I've never seen it persist.

Is there anything interesting in the logs? (<install dir>/log/Altitude.log)

Can you post the full log on pastebin.com and post the link?

edit: as for your second most recent post, unless that's happening right when you DC it could just be normal behaviour, it's telling you a thread was stopped with Thread.stop(), which is depreciated, so that might be why it show as an error even if it's supposed to happen, but that's just a guess, Karl/Lamster would be better able to deobfuscate the stack trace than me ^^

edit2: from the pastebin below:
Code:
INFO [2016-01-18 09:48:30,011] [Thread-23]: Starting server on port 27272
WARN [2016-01-18 09:48:30,015] [main]: hitch = 42ms (average = 17ms)
INFO [2016-01-18 09:48:30,026] [Thread-23]: Distributor is nimblygames
INFO [2016-01-18 09:48:30,126] [Thread-23]: unpacking map to maps\cache\tutorial.altx
INFO [2016-01-18 09:48:30,477] [main]: shutting down server
ERROR [2016-01-18 09:48:30,518] [Thread-23]: java.lang.ThreadDeath
java.lang.ThreadDeath
so yeah, that's normal behaviour, it kills the thread when it shuts down the server.

So there are networking issues. Many of them.
If you're not having any other internet problems with your computer, I suppose reinstalling java is woth a shot...

Wait, I was wrong with the reinstalling java thing: alti uses it's own JVM, you can change it to use the system's JVM, which I've done, and I always forget that's not the default >.<'

To change it, edit <install dir>/.install4j/pref_jre.cfg
I think the default java directory on windows is
Code:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\

Just to be sure you've seen it: see my post above to change alti's JVM to the system one.

To change it, edit <install dir>/.install4j/pref_jre.cfg
I think the default java directory on windows is
Code:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\

This path you written to jre6 is different from mine, the one i have is C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_66

Open the file in notepad, and replace whatever's in there with the path to you're system's jre. It might be prudent to make a copy of the file, but it's not difficult to replace ^^

the path might be
Code:
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\
, but it's woth going there in window's exporer and having a look, e.g. it might be Program Files (x86), or the jre might be a different version (jre7, jre8, etc). Sorry for being so vague, I'm on linux and don't have access to Windows atm, so I'm not completely sure what the path is.

Ah, you found it! so yeah, replace the content of the file with that path ^^
edit: after that, make sure alti's not running, start it again, and see if anything's working a little (or hopefuly a lot) better.

In the altitude folder there is a file called jre, i should delete that and replace it with this file? C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_66

No. is there a folder called .install4j in the altitude directory? it might be hidden.
inside there, there's a text file called pref_jre.conf.
open that file in notepad, and replace what's there with "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_66" (no quotes)

I suppose you could try chaging the port alti uses: go to options->gameplay and change the port to 30100.

edit: for anyone following this thread, we tried this with no luck

The issue now seems to have sorted it's self out. For the record, here are the things we tried since my last post about changing ports:
  1. Pinging both nimblygames.com and my own server showed pings over 500ms.
  2. Medo restarted his router, this reduced the ping times to more reasonable numbers.
  3. Trying to connect in alti again had the same result as before, a quick disconnection.
  4. Another attemt at connecting to a server in alti, this time one of my own servers so I could check the logs: he managed to connect, but not talk or spawn, and was ping kicked in about 20 seconds.
  5. Another attempt connecting to another of my servers, and everything worked well.
  6. Testing a couple more servers showed everything working as it should.

For anyone curious, here's what the server saw when he disconnected as soon as he joined:
Code:
INFO [2016-01-19 19:47:11,532] [Thread-13]: Adding client '{SWN} Medo' from 197.53.81.108:15084, playerId=3
ERROR [2016-01-19 19:47:53,934] [Thread-13]: missingCount=37
INFO [2016-01-19 19:48:10,323] [Thread-13]: Removing client '{SWN} Medo' from 197.53.81.108:15084, playerId=3, message: Kicked due to high ping. Your ping (999) exceeds the max ping (350) for this server.
To lower your ping, close other network applications such as torrent downloaders. If your ping is still too high, join another server or host your own server.
