Default Windows 8 does not like Altitude

Depending on the resolution altitude is set at the white box will either be constant and flicker, but it never goes away. If I had to guess I'd think it's related to the new sidebar things that Metro uses.

If I recall I didn't have this issue with Dev Preview and I never really used the Consumer Preview.

This is happening for me on Windows 8 RP (build 8400). It could be my ****ty computer so it be interesting to see if others have this issue too.

As far as I see it the concern isn't running Steam since they'll never stop supporting Windows, it's that the new Windows Marketplace could harm their sales significantly.

"On some versions of Windows 8, it will be the only way to get downloadable software such as games."

However, you are probably right since that version is most likely the Windows 8 phone.

Sure that is true with Windows RT, but it won't be capable of running non-Metro apps either. I personally don't see much lost sales based on one version of Windows it won't run on.

Ah far as I'm aware Windows RT is only for ARM based tablets hence why I don't see it hurting their sales too much.

For some reason this happens to me when using mumble, and its something to do with the overlay turned on (I'm on windows XP) so maybe you have something with an overlay that's causing it?

Now that win 8 is out, has anyone bought and tried it out? I'm thinking of getting a new laptop but I'm not sure whether I'd get win 7 or win 8 on it.
I've read so many different opinions on it so it's really hard to figure out, does it work like win 7 (mainly, can it run steam and its games).

And ofc does it run alti.

Yes - my Altitude works fine on Windows 8 (and I haven't had any issues with Steam games yet)
