Default Season 6 (!?) ball map pool adjustments

Hello ladder connoisseurs,

With Season 6 (!?) rapidly approaching, it is time to re-evaluate the map pool.

I am interested in making substantial (!) changes to the pool for the upcoming season.

This is a potential list of Season 6 (!?) maps:

ball_asteroids
ball_cave
ball_core
ball_cross
ball_darkwar
ball_funnelpark
ball_ice
ball_labyrinth
ball_lostcity
ball_mayhem2
ball_planepark
ball_pegs (dead serious)

ball_reef
ball_swarm2

ball_sideshow

ball_skylands
ball_snow
ball_warehouse

Removed:

ball_maze - questionable cheese graphics; too complicated for most people.

ball_ufo - time to put the ol' fella out of his misery

Maps that I would like to add but that need TLC first (HINT: POST A SCREENSHOT OF UPDATED VERSION IN THIS THREAD) :

ball_cloudcity - desperately needs to look like something other than feces

ball_hardcourt - spawns need to be moved towards middle of map; entire map needs to be realigned accordingly. Graphics update couldn't hurt.

--

Comments potentially welcome.

God bless.

Please dont remove maze. I love that it is tight, makes people be more precise and the tiniest little detail count. This is the best of the best playing ball so I'm sure people can cope with it. Ok it may look like cheese but idc

+1 to warehouse and hardcourt

I'm all for the more options, but I don't think pegs or cloudcity deserve to be in random rotation.

Keep Maze and UFO. Just because something is complicated doesn't mean it should be removed in my opinion.

Definitely add warehouse.

I'm also in favor of adding swarm2 and re-adding hardcourt.

Not a particular fan of cloud city or sideshow.

No to pegs, although it would be hilarious to watch.

Also, how is ball_volcano to everyone? Or am I the only person who sorta liked it?

agreed with everything soccer said...I think if a map is not fun to play in a pub it is likely not fun to play competitively which is exactly the case of pegs, I would be totally in favor of warehouse, swarm2, and hardcourt (completely as is even if spawn locations could make it a bit better), I am not a fan of cloudcity and sideshow (did we not have that in at one point and everyone hated it?) I sort of agree about reef and skylands, but I believe ufo and maze are good competitive maps even if I am not the biggest fan of ufo (I love maze though <3)

also ball_volcano is slightly above ball_pegs and ball_risk which are then only slightly above ball_football

My 10 cents:

Nonononono to pegs

Swarm and warehouse look very intriguing, definitely ok with me. I also remember thinking sideshow was fun although damn those goals are high.

Cloudcity does not seem to have any potential no matter how much work is done on it imo. Spawn goes straight down, goals (and defending whales) are blocked by those pointy things and I don't even know what those turquoise bars are doing there.

Bring back hardcourt! Really really good map! I can see it being improved by your suggestions but even before they are implemented, bring it back! There have been multiple votes on the forums and the vast majority want it back, with the only real argument against it is that it "takes long."

I agree with soccer and DN about maze and ufo

Not sure what you mean by "dull" for reef. I think it's a good layout and nice graphics, and that may actually mean something coming from a randa because those walls are really unpredictable.

As for Skylands, I agree it is kinda dull. Could go either way on that one though I think there are worse maps in the pool.

Aaaaand finally, petition to remove lostcity? I have yet to find someone who actually enjoys it. It consists of an unsymmetrical rock

Edit: Also CUTESYYYYYYY

No to pegs and slideshow, yes to the others.

Don't remove maze, but kill UFO, then bury it and salt the earth.

+1 to keeping maze, I don't think there's any problem with it.

I personally don't like ufo, reef and skylands and I see many others don't like it either, so I'm for removing it.

Don't know the new maps, only pegs. I enjoy playing that on dojo, but not sure about playing it on a competitive level.

No to pegs. The pegs are way too difficult to see, if you're going to include it at least let the map maker change the pegs, preferably both the size and color of each peg.

I vote to keep maze and ufo.

I understand that why some people don't like them, but they're different enough that it keeps ladder interesting.

Dunnow if this works: Ingame voting system for each or certain maps in the pool (-2/+2)? If a certain map gets below x points another random new map will enter the pool.

But in general for me a bigger pool would be nice, I wouldnt mind about a couple of maps in it than that i dont like, because chances are lower u will play a certain map very often.

This isn't only about your opinion though, but more about the community's. Seeing as you've been part of the total playtime for roughly 8.67% i think we should have a bigger influence on your responses than getting something like: "Doodle is the harbinger of the end times".

I don't have a set opinion on Doodle. I do have one about you not taking stuff in consideration, or rather not showing any interest in doing so.

I'm not sure why you're being hostile but I am sure that I'm going to ignore anything you say related to potential changes. I'm in charge of them, not you. It's not a democracy. Deal with it. Well thought out opinions will be taken into consideration as always.

Volcano is bugged (boundary walls too thin) as far as I know. If someone can confirm a fix it could be considered.

See this thread here:

Maybe PM Dick van Dyke and see if he'll make a fix for ball_volcano as well?

The problem is, everything here is just that - opinion. Perhaps for the maps you've chosen to remove/add there can be a poll on the forums and the ones that get popular vote will be in the random map pool? I don't see any better way to make people happy than just to see what the majority wants.

Edit: Actually maybe majority would cut it a tad close, but at least we could do polls and say, maps that get above a certain percent (i.e. 70) would be in the map pool?

Why don't we just nominate a group of people who have high play time in the last season with each of planes and let them discuss and chose what are the most appropriate maps for ladder?

My 2 cents into entro's idea.

Having a group of players selected by their total play time on ladder doesn't mean they have a bigger knowledge of a map than others. One can have less time played on ladder but can have bigger knowledge from pub maps not on rotation in ladder (i.e Dojo which is basically where the +65% of ladder players come from. Also has almost the same pace as ladder).

So I could be a master of ball_doodle, a map that has never been in rotation on ladder. Suddenly comes into consideration to be added to the ladder servers. A group of asshats is chosen to pick the maps and as a result, ball_doodle wasn't chosen when it was actually the greatest map of all. So basically play time doesn't mean much.

I hope you ladies get my point.

With all my faith in humanity, I sincerely hope the doodle suggestion in ladder was a joke... If it wasn't, please turn me into a cyborg now.

Doodle needed to die before it is even born... like in the map editor fetus or something.
